35mm

Mastodon

This was a huge show for me, not only was it my first time seeing Mastodon, who were opening for Clutch along with Every Time I Die and Nebula, it was also the night of my first legally purchased beers, since the show crossed midnight into my 21st birthday. I was aware that I could get the light streaks by keeping the shutter open but clearly still figuring out how to get away with the technique successfully. So many of these photos are out of focus. There's a (less than 25%) chance it was a camera malfunction. There's a type of person you'll see at a show - they're so hyped to be there, dancing and bopping, but they're also attempting to record video of entire songs on their phone. You can see from afar that the footage will be jarringly unwatchable but they don't notice at all. They're just having a blast. That was me at this show with an old 35mm SLR instead of a phone. This was eight months before the release of 2004's Leviathan.
