Prior to this show, I was not a fan of TV on the Radio. Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes had only been out for a couple of months. The rocket of their success was just firing. They had a video for “Staring at the Sun” that I checked out once some out of town friends asked if they could crash with us the night of the show. It was fine. But I was psyched to see Six Parts Seven. Ohio instrumentalists I was introduced to through the Donut Friends Records/Musical Adventures network of bands. The one band on the bill (of Six Parts Seven, Apollo Heights, & TV on the Radio), I was aware of. Live, TVOTR blew me away. Live, they straight up ignited the songs that felt lukewarm to me during those initial listens.
